The project undertakes an interdisciplinary dialogue on the theme of the body in contemporary times. Now more than ever, the postmodern, global, electronic and digitized society applies permanent control to individual bodies. The current society focuses on surveillance and visibility, while instruments such as technocentrism, dread of illness or terrorism, desire for beauty, immortality or power are deployed in order to maximize the control of the body.
Body under Surveillance intends the renewal of the contemporary visual art environment through information exchanges in a series of theory workshops and interdisciplinary events. Moreover, this exhibition relates the works of established Romanian artists to those produced by young artists working on the theme of the body.
