Adrian Ghenie: Pie-fights and pathos
September 21, 2012–January 13, 2013
MCA Denver is pleased to
present the first U.S. solo exhibition of the work of Romanian painter
Adrian Ghenie. Ghenie’s work – which draws from Old Masters’ paintings,
the history of cinema and political extremism – dwells on the dark
underside of modernism. His paintings highlight forgotten episodes of
history, shifting between abstraction and figuration. Like a memory, his
work moves between fact and fiction, blurring the boundaries between
the two. For this exhibition, Ghenie will present a new series of works
alongside examples of earlier projects, offering a comprehensive review
of this emerging artist’s oeuvre, much of which has never been shown in
this country.
Curated by Nora Burnett Abrams, Adrian Ghenie: Pie-Fights and Pathos
will be presented in the David & Laura Merage Foundation
Photography Gallery from September 21, 2012, through January 13, 2013.
The opening celebration will be held on Friday, September 21, 6–8PM
members preview, 8–10PM public opening.
This exhibition is
sponsored in part by Javier & Colleen Baz, MCA Denver’s Director’s
Vision Society members and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual
Arts. MCA Denver also thanks the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural
Facilities District.
